STYLE
Not your ‘momma made you put on the orange safety flag’ – NO! – A nicely styled, handmade flag that kids and adults alike will feel comfortable having on their bicycles.
Durable
We make our flags with 400 Denier, high quality UV-resistant nylon fabric. The thread we use is also UV- resistant. We have designed our flags to withstand a lot of abuse and have tested them extensively.
REFLECTIVE
We wanted a flag that would have a lot of reflective material on it. We have incorporated a reflective ‘spine’ and also 2 reflective ribbons on the top of our flags. This material is truly amazing at night!
SAFETY
First and foremost on our mind. How do we create a flag that has all the safety features you would need on a flag and still have a nice looking flag at the end of the process?

Purple Sky LLC is a bicycle flag manufacturing company. It was created by Rachelle and Dan Peters - to provide cyclists with a classy alternative to the orange triangle safety flag that we all grew up with and learned to despise as a child. We both are cyclists – Dan is an avid recumbent trike cyclist who rides low and not very slow, prefers riding during the twilight hours, and wanted a flag that would be highly reflective and have a nice appearance to it. Rachelle has recently become a recumbent trike aficionado but still owns a traditional upright bicycle and wanted to have a unique and fun flag on her bike while still keeping safety in mind. Both of us have children (Rachelle has a 11 & 14 year old and Dan has a 7 & 9 year old) and we wanted the kids to have highly visible flags on their bikes as well. Staying visible is our main goal – seems the roads around our town are becoming increasingly congested and drivers are getting more and more distracted every day – it’s pretty easy to miss seeing that biker sharing the lane or the kids that ride up and down the street. We asked our kids if they would put a flag on their bikes – but the kids would not have anything to do with the orange safety flags that were available. We find it interesting that you can get a kid to wear a helmet while biking, but not get them to put a flag on their bike. The helmet will help you in an accident, but being more visible could prevent that accident from happening in the first place. We think that the reluctance for putting a flag on your bike might be coming from somewhere deep in your subconscious mind, where the orange safety flag has left a dark memory. We searched for about a year to try to find anything out there that met our most basic criteria: a flag that would provide high daytime visibility, extremely high night time reflective properties, and also be pleasing to the eye. We found that our options were very limited. So, with Dan’s love of design and Rachelle’s background in industrial sewing, it was obvious what needed to be done….we decided to make our own bicycle flags. ♦♦♦♦♦
